We are delighted that Dr Ed Campbell has been promoted to the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at City Science. Having joined City Science in January 2019 as Lead Developer, Ed has been instrumental in driving quality, consistency and automation while ensuring we have the products to be competitive and to deliver on our vision.
Ed, who has a PhD in Astrophysics from Cambridge University, has previously held a number of significant roles in technology and industry, including four years at BAE Systems and seven years at the Met Office. Ed takes over the role from our founding CTO, Robert Byrne, who established the team and developed our reputation as a leading innovator in analytical software for decarbonisation.
Speaking about his new role, Ed says: “City Science is a tech-driven company, and my role as CTO is primarily about technology leadership. I’m responsible for the technology strategy that supports our innovative projects, products and services. It’s about ensuring that everything we are doing keeps working, but also ensuring we are constantly evolving by asking where we want to be, and how we best get there.”
City Science CEO and founder Laurence Oakes-Ash added: “Ed has big shoes to fill in terms of taking over from Robert, but I have no doubt he is the right person for the role moving forwards. In his time with us so far, Ed has demonstrated an outstanding ability to think strategically while delivering operationally. He has a rare background combining science, engineering, technology, and business. His passion for innovation to make the world a more sustainable place makes him the ideal fit for us.”
